Yato watershed is located close to my house in Tokyo, Setagaya ward. I did a study with the students of UNU on the onsite facilities deployed in this basin roughly about 3 sq km in extent. They have been deploying onsite facilities since 1981, but major commitment and expansion has occurred since 1985. These facilities have been effective in maintaining flood security within the 1:5 year or 1:10 year flood targets. People are interested at the beginning with the introduction to the program and the one time support from the local govt. However there are concerns about the long term maintenance and community engagement for the program.
